Description of the site: One of the most critical water springs in the city of Nablus, whether in terms of the amount of water flowing from it, or the historical and archaeological values that the spring contains, It is the only spring found inside the old town. The spring is accessed through a narrow opening one meter below ground level. The entrance leads to a tunnel from north to south, where the southern section extends towards the mountain's interior, with a distance of about 20 meters. It is a tunnel irregularly cut into the natural rock, ending in a small cave about 3 x 3 m in size, 2.5 m high. The water flows from its floor, and the rock fissures below its southern facade. The northern extension of the tunnel is still standing, with an extension of up to 100 meters, as it reaches a closed-end due to collapses. The sides of this tunnel were built with stone walls, and it has been completely renovated, which led to the disappearance of its original Roman elements. Along the tunnel, there are several branches of smaller tunnels towards the east and west, and this spring was undoubtedly linked to a network of tunnels that made up the water system of the Roman city, The width of this tunnel is about 80 cm, and its height is 150 cm.During the Ottoman period, when the Hashim family built a house in front of this spring, they realized its importance. They attached a beautiful hallway to it to facilitate the entry. It is a porch covered with intersecting vaults, extending from the bottom of the house at a distance of 20 meters, rising between 5-6 meters, and 5 meters wide. It starts north at the gate overlooking al-Tineh Square and ends at al-Ein Square. In the middle of the last century, Nablus municipality rehabilitated the spring and the tunnel and inserted a line of water pipes into it. It was directed to the Qarioun pumping station, which is close to the spring from the northern side. In addition, restoration work has recently been carried out on the Ottoman entrance that connects to this spring. This spring is still an important source for providing the city with water.
The spring is located in the center of Al-Qarioun neighborhood, inside the old town, to the south of Al-Tineh Mosque (Al-Bara bin Malik), surrounded by historical residential buildings on its four sides,
And it is bordered on the north side by a cove...
