The Christian Information Center is an invaluable resource for anyone visiting the Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. The center has been open since 1973 and is sponsored by the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land. Their aim is to provide information to visitors and residents alike about Christianity and the Holy Land. The center has information on the different Christian communities and sites in Jerusalem, including maps, guides, and brochures. Located just inside Jaffa Gate, opposite the Tower of David, the Christian Information Center is a perfect first stop for those seeking information before touring the Christian sites in and around the Old City of Jerusalem. The center is located an enchanting historic building near Jaffa Gate that has a long and interesting history. The site of the building was bought by a man named Dr. Vahan Gasper, a member of the Armenian Morian family. After construction of the building was the Gaspar-Morian family home and the location of the Royal Post Office of the Austrian Empire. When the post office closed in 1918, the space became the Bank of Rome until 1940, at which point it was used as a Catholic Club. In 1948, Dr Gaspar fled to Lebanon, and the building was acquired by the Custody of the Holy Land in 1964. It was then extensively renovated in 1971 by Fr Claudio Baratto OFM, and in June 1973 the C.I.C. was officially opened. Since its inauguration, the Christian Information Center has become a premier source of information on Christian heritage in the Holy Land. The center is open from Monday to Saturday, closed on Sunday, from 9am to 5pm. The helpful staff of the center can provide information on how to reach the holy sites in Jerusalem and their opening hours. The center can also provide visitors with the times of church services and information about any events that are taking place in the area. These services are offered free of charge with the support of the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land.
