The Roman Pools - Sanniriya

The town of Sanniriya is located southeast of Qalqilya Governorate on a hill about 250 meters above sea level. The town dates back to the Mamluk period. Archaeological sites, buildings, and historical sites are spread in the town and its surroundings, most notably the old town. Its most prominent sites are the old mosque and the Roman pools. The Roman pools are located on the town's northern side, and five pools are cut into the rock. The cut stones from the pools were used in the construction of defensive buildings, and fortifications for the sites surrounding the village. These stone quarries were re-used to become pools, to collect winter water in order to provide the population and livestock with their water needs. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in cooperation with the village council in the town, rehabilitated and highlighted the site of the Roman pools as evidence of the tangible cultural heritage of the Palestinians.
