An-Najah Centenary Museum

Description of the site: The museum was established to provide information to students of the Department of Tourism and Archeology at the university, training them on antiquities and educating them about historical periods and eras and the characteristics of each era. The museum also aims at developing awareness among university students of the importance of Palestinian heritage. The museum consists of two exhibitions. One is dedicated to displaying Palestinian heritage tools and materials, and the other exhibition is devoted to antiquities. The museum relies on displaying materials and artifacts according to the historical sequence of eras, where a collection of pottery, glass, and coins from different eras is allocated in display cabinets for each of the historical eras, and defining them using cards affixed to the cabinets explaining each piece, its history, the material of manufacture and use. It is a group of pottery and glass utensils and coins from different eras. The museum includes several modern murals that show the successive historical stages in Palestine, where it was established in two phases; In the first phase, the Archeology and Tourism Department was established during the nineties of the last century by the late Professor of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Ghawi Ghawi. He collected many items displayed in the museum as gifts and donations, mostly from university students, and included a heritage collection of traditional clothes, agricultural and household tools. As for the second phase, in 2017, a museum dedicated to antiquities was established through cooperation between An-Najah University and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, where the Ministry provided many archaeological materials.
